Sally Mann
Born in 1951 · United States
Family, memory and the landscape of the South.
The story
Sally Mann works from her immediate surroundings in Virginia. After the portraits of At Twelve and Immediate Family, she explored landscapes, memory and mortality more extensively. She uses historic processes whose accidents can become part of the image. Her work questions the boundaries between family intimacy, public representation and the collective history of the American South.
