The story

Adolphe Braun came from textile design and photographed floral arrangements before developing landscape views and reproductions of works of art. His company helped circulate images of collections and monuments. Its catalogues need to be read with a distinction between his own photographs and the production continued by the Braun firm and its photographers.

Understanding the work

Compare the detail of a flower with the arrangement of a whole composition. The clarity of textures and forms serves study, ornament and the circulation of artworks alike.

Key works and series

Photographed flowers; landscapes of Switzerland and Alsace; reproductions of works of art.
