The story

Born into a farming family, Raymond Depardon became a press photographer, helped establish Gamma and later joined Magnum. Cinema has accompanied his career. His work observes international news, French institutions, rural life and ordinary landscapes. He has increasingly questioned his position in relation to the subject, sometimes favouring a slow, quiet description over the event destined for newspaper headlines.
