The story
Born in Moscow in 1952, Gueorgui Pinkhassov studied cinema and worked at Mosfilm before settling in Paris in 1985. His path crossed that of Andrei Tarkovsky. Associated with Magnum, he pursues a photographic practice attentive to details, reflections and variations of light. Sightwalk notably brings together his wanderings in Tokyo. His book Sophistication Simplification also addresses the work he develops on Instagram.
Understanding the work
Look for what becomes visible through light rather than the most identifiable object. Reflections and overlapping planes invite slow reading.
