The human consequences of events.
The story
Known as Chim, David Seymour began his career in the European illustrated press before becoming a co-founder of Magnum. His work covers political history, war and the post-war years. His reports on European children for UNICEF pay particular attention to the lasting aftermath of conflict. The narrative does not stop at action: it follows people whose everyday lives remain transformed after the events.
Understanding the work
Look for signs of a story continuing beyond the image. Expressions, places and learning situations sometimes reveal the effects of war more enduringly than a combat scene.
